H.N. Funkhouser & Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Claytor and Executive Vice
President and Chief Operating Officer Ken Rice presented Frederick County Public Schools’
principals with grants from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance totaling $10,000 this morning.
The $500 grants were provided to each of the school division’s 20 schools and will be used to
support math and science programs. This is the 17th consecutive year H.N. Funkhouser &
Company has partnered with the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance to provide the grant funds to
Frederick County Public Schools.
Schools Superintendent David Sovine says, “We greatly appreciate the partnership we
enjoy with H.N. Funkhouser & Company. Thanks to the support and generosity of Mr. Claytor
and Mr. Rice, our schools have been able to provide students with many unique opportunities to
explore and engage in math and science. We truly value their support as well as the support we
receive from all of our business partners each year.”
In 2001-02, H.N. Funkhouser & Company began working to secure ExxonMobil
Educational Alliance grants to benefit Frederick County Public Schools. Since that time, the
company has been responsible for contributions totaling $153,250 which have been used to
support math and science instruction.
Claytor says, “It’s always a pleasure to present principals with checks from the
ExxonMobil Educational Alliance. The funds are put to good use and help students as they
engage in math and science lessons in their classrooms. As a business leader and James
Wood High School graduate, I recognize the importance of supporting our local schools
because of the positive impact a high-quality school system has on our local economy and the
quality of life we enjoy in Winchester and Frederick County.”
Rice adds, “ExxonMobil has a great interest in getting students more interested in math
and science as those areas of study are critical to innovation and the development of new
technologies. H.N. Funkhouser & Company is proud to participate in this corporate initiative
which is leading to students becoming more interested in science, technology, engineering and
math.”
