Coronavirus Update June 3, 2020 - NEW
School Superintendent David Sovine has distributed a letter to parents that includes information on the planning underway to reopen schools in August.

Parents, students in grades 6-12 and FCPS teachers are being asked to complete a survey about the distance learning that was offered after schools were closed due to the pandemic as well as the overall purpose and value of education. The survey will close on June 8.

Meeting Notice
Committee Meeting to Stream Live
On Tuesday, June 9, the School Board’s Instruction Committee will meet at 4:00 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Frederick County Public Schools' commitment to adhering to current public health and safety recommendations such as social distancing, members of the general public will not be allowed to attend the meeting in person. However, the meeting will be made accessible to the public via a live video stream on the FCPS Facebook page.

Grab-n-Go Meals Update
The Grab-n-Go Meals program is being offered through June 30 with a few changes to the menu and schedule. Starting on June 8, any school-aged child can receive a free breakfast and lunch on Monday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at James Wood, Millbrook or Sherando high schools. In addition, the meals will be available on Monday through Thursday between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at several satellite locations throughout Frederick County.

Middle and High School Science Textbook Review
Materials for high school Environmental Science and middle school science courses are available for public review through June 15. Parents/guardians are encouraged to review the materials and contact Dr. Kelley Aitken, Supervisor of Science and Visual Arts at or 540-662-3889 ext. 88176 with any questions or concerns.

Kindergarten Registration for 2020-21
All children who will be five years of age on or before September 30 must be register to begin kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year. To register, parents should contact the registrar at the school their child will attend.

High Schools Finalize Plans for In-Person Graduation Experiences and Graduation Parades
In addition to hosting virtual graduation ceremonies, James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando high schools will be hosting parades and in-person graduation experiences to recognize graduating seniors. The events will be held in controlled settings in which social distancing and other recommended safety actions are practiced.

State Superintendent Announces Launch of “VA TV Classroom” by VA Public TV Stations
The Virginia Department of Education and several public television stations are partnering to broadcast teacher-led classroom instruction across the state. The instruction is aligned to the commonwealth's academic standards.

Matt Brame
Millbrook Teacher Makes Face Shields
Millbrook High School Technology Education Teacher Matt Brame is utilizing some of the school division’s 3-D printers to make face shields to support Valley Health and Lord Fairfax Health District employees who are on the front lines in the battle with COVID-19. To date, more than 50 face shields have been created. Valley Health is providing funding to support the effort.
