Early Bird Registration February 3-28; Regular Registration March 3-31
Frederick County Public Schools will be conducting kindergarten registration for the 2020-
21 school year in two phases again this year. The parents of rising kindergarten students who
have other children enrolled in Frederick County Public Schools are being asked to register their
student for kindergarten during the early bird registration period from February 3-28. The parents
of rising kindergarten students who do not have any children currently attending Frederick County
Public Schools should complete the registration process from March 3-31.
All parents registering children to attend kindergarten for the first time in August should
complete the registration process at the elementary school their child will attend. The only
exception are kindergarten students who will attend Jordan Springs Elementary School which is
opening for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
Parents residing in the Jordan Springs Elementary School attendance zone who have other
children enrolled in Frederick County Public Schools should enroll their rising kindergarten student
at the elementary school in whose attendance zone they currently reside (Redbud Run Elementary
or Stonewall Elementary). Those parents who have no other children enrolled in Frederick County
Public Schools and have a rising kindergarten student who will attend Jordan Springs Elementary
School are to complete the registration process by appointment only at the Frederick County Public
Schools Administration Building located at 1415 Amherst Street in Winchester. Appointments are
to be scheduled with Carrie Vivas at 540-662-3888 x88147. Specific registration times for both
the early bird and regular registration periods at all schools are available on individual school
websites or by contacting individual schools.
All children who will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2020, must register for
kindergarten. It is important for parents to register their children for kindergarten during the
registration periods because it allows schools to better plan for the upcoming school year. Parents
who are unable to register their children during the designated registration periods are encouraged
to complete the registration process as soon as possible by visiting the elementary school their
child will attend during regular business hours.
Parents registering a child are required by Virginia law to present a certified copy of the
pupil's birth record; a certificate of physical examination from a physician or a health department;
and a certificate with complete dates for DPT or DTaP, Polio, MMR, Hepatitis B and Chickenpox
immunizations from a physician or health department. Parents should register their child for
kindergarten even if all of the above have not been obtained. In addition, parents must present a
photo ID such as a valid Virginia driver’s license, a valid Virginia ID card from the Department of
Motor Vehicles or a valid passport as well as two forms of proof that they reside in the attendance
zone in which they are enrolling their student. Proofs of residency may be a utility bill, a property
tax bill, a rental/lease contract or a home purchase contract. Please note that bills may be dated
no more than two months prior to the current date. Phone bills and bank statements are not
accepted.
